How do I apply for a vacancy?

A separate Northampton County application is required for each announced vacancy by 5 p.m. on the deadline date. Position title and department location must be written on each application. Resumes cannot substitute the Northampton County Employment Application.

Zoning Administrator

Northampton County is accepting applications for a full-time Zoning Administrator. The essential function of the position is to enforce zoning ordinances and is responsible for knowledge and enforcement of County zoning ordinances, related inspections, and preparing reports.
Conducts inspections for compliance with County zoning ordinances; resolves non-compliance issues. Serves as Subdivision Agent.
Prefer  Bachelor’s degree in public administration or a closely related field.
Requires valid Virginia Driver’s License and a Virginia Association of Zoning Officials’ certification.
Excellent communication skills are essential. The salary range for this position is $48,400-$72,600 plus benefits. Negotiable depending on qualifications.

Volunteer Firefighter Recruitment Coordinator

 

Community Fire Company, Inc. (Exmore, VA)
Volunteer Firefighter Recruitment Coordinator - Position Advertisement

On behalf of The Community Fire Company, Inc. (the volunteer fire department serving Exmore and surrounding communities), Northampton County is seeking an individual to serve as the Volunteer Firefighter Recruitment Coordinator. This is a new part-time position and is temporary in nature utilizing awarded federal grant funds.

The incumbent will utilize the latest techniques for the recruitment of volunteer firefighters and methods to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of such recruitment efforts. Works with social, civic, and local organizations to develop partnerships, where appropriate to assist in the recruitment of volunteer firefighters. A significant aspect of work will include the development, implementation, and management of a marketing program to recruit volunteer firefighters.

Candidates must have an Associate’s Degree or higher (or acceptable equivalent work experience), a valid driver’s license (providing vehicle for use and/or reimbursement for travel), and must successfully pass a background screening. The successful candidate should have excellent time management skills and the ability to work with minimal direct supervision. Position is expected to work between 20-29 hours weekly and will work under the supervision of the Fire Chief and County of Northampton. Expected hourly salary wages are between $18.00 and $25.00.

Custodian

Northampton County is accepting applications for a full time custodian in the Public Works/ Facilities Management Department.  Pay rate for this position is $9.65 / hr. Applicants must be 18 years or older. Requires high school diploma, GED, or vocational training and have work experience.

JAIL MEDIC

This position will be working in the Eastern Shore Regional Jail and the job will require shift work, days, nights, weekends, holidays and required to be on call at times.

Qualifications: over the age of 21 and have obtained high school diploma or GED. Applicant must possess at a minimum the following: LPN or higher certifications.
