How do I apply for a vacancy?

A separate Northampton County application is required for each announced vacancy by 5 p.m. on the deadline date. Position title and department location must be written on each application. Resumes cannot substitute the Northampton County Employment Application.

  • For positions requiring a DMV driving record, a good driving record will be required for employment.
  • A Social Security card and I-9 information (Employment Eligibility) will be required at time of employment

NCPR Summer Camp Counselors

 

Northampton County Parks and Recreation is seeking 2018 summer camp counselors. Under the supervision and guidance of the Northampton County Parks and Recreation Department Director, the Summer Camp Counselor is responsible for creating a high quality experience for every camper.
Camp begins Monday June 19th and will run until August 25th, Monday through Friday 7:30am to 5:00pm.

Temporary Office Assistant

The Northampton County Commonwealth's Attorney's office is accepting applications for a temporary Office Assistant. Hours will be on call, as needed by the office. Primary responsibilities include assisting the Office Administrator with file organization and data entry, and when the Office Administrator is absent, providing clerical assistance as requested by the Commonwealth's and Assistant Commonwealth's Attorneys, serving as office receptionist, answering and directing telephone calls, and directing inquiries from the public, law enforcement or Court. Must possess knowledge of and abilities in general office procedures. Applicant must maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.

9-1-1 Communications Officer

The Eastern Shore of Virginia 9-1-1 Commission is now accepting applications for 9-1-1 Communications Officers for immediate part-time openings, with a focus on individuals potentially interested in future full-time advancement. The qualified applicant will work rotating shifts, including weekdays, weekends, and holidays, as well as fill in shifts as needed. Communications Officers are responsible for answering 9-1-1 calls, verifying the callback number and address of the emergency, determining the nature of the emergency and transferring the call or dispatching the appropriate emergency response unit as required, as well as other associated duties.

Minimum qualifications are a high school diploma or equivalent, including some experience in keyboarding or typing. Applicants must be able to speak clearly and distinctly, understand and follow detailed directions, act quickly and effectively during emergencies, and operate complex telecommunications equipment. Desirable qualifications include two years experience in law enforcement, fire, or emergency medical services, and/or public safety dispatching. Applicants selected for employment will be subject to a background investigation and drug screening.

Qualifications: Certified in food sanitation.
Duties: Plans, prepares and serves meals to inmates in Eastern Shore
Regional Jail
Hours: 40 hour workweek. Must be able to work shift work, nights, weekends, and some holidays.

Jail Medic

This position will be working in the Eastern Shore Regional Jail and the job will require shift work, days, nights, weekends, holidays and required to be on call at times.

Qualifications: over the age of 21 and have obtained high school diploma or GED. Applicant must possess at a minimum the following: LPN or higher certifications preferred with work experience at EMT B and higher preferred with work experience.

Information Technology Technician

 

Northampton County is accepting applications for a full time IT Technician in the Information Technology Department.
The essential function of this position is to assist in the daily operations of the Department, including but not limited to: systems administration, website management, application administration, network administration and providing technical support for all county departments.

Familiarity with the following systems will be advantageous:
Website development/management software
Cisco VoIP Systems
Cisco IOS
Microsoft SQL
Microsoft Server and Desktop Operating Systems
Microsoft Exchange Server
VMWare ESXi

Successful candidates should possess the following traits:
Proven experience as IT Technician or relevant position
Excellent diagnostic and problem solving skills
In depth understanding of diverse computer systems and networks
Knowledge of internet security and data privacy principles
The ability to communicate technical concepts effectively to a varied audience
Strong sense of discretion and confidentiality
Strong organizational and time-management skills
Ability to meet deadlines and manage stress effectively in high-pressure situations
Experience with LAN/WAN networks
Experience with website development/management


Bachelor’s degree in Systems Administration or closely related field is desired.  Cisco Networking Certification(s) (CNET or CCNA), Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA) or closely related certifications are preferred.  This position also requires valid Virginia Driver’s License and five years of related work experience.  Criminal background check required.


Minimum salary for this position is $37,179.73.

Emergency Medical Technician

Northampton County is accepting applications for Full and Part time Emergency Medical Technicians (ALS Preferred) in the Emergency Medical Services Department.

Applicant must at a minimum possess the following: Commonwealth of Virginia- Department of Health Emergency Medical Technician certification, CPR , valid VA. Driver's License with good driving record, Emergency Vehicle Operators Course, and Hazardous Materials Awareness. Criminal Background check, physical and drug screening are requirements with this position.
