How do I apply for a vacancy?

A separate Northampton County application is required for each announced vacancy by 5 p.m. on the deadline date. Position title and department location must be written on each application. Resumes cannot substitute the Northampton County Employment Application.

  • For positions requiring a DMV driving record, a good driving record will be required for employment.
  • A Social Security card and I-9 information (Employment Eligibility) will be required at time of employment

JAIL MEDIC

This position will be working in the Eastern Shore Regional Jail and the job will require shift work, days, nights, weekends, holidays and required to be on call at times.

Qualifications:   over the age of 21 and have obtained high school diploma or GED.  Applicant must possess at a minimum the following:  LPN or higher certifications.

Northampton Co. Parks and Rec. Referee Position

Northampton Co. Parks and Recreation is currently accepting applications for qualified referees for adult and youth basketball, flag football, softball, and volleyball.  Under the supervision and guidance of the Northampton County Parks and Recreation Department Director, referees must have extensive knowledge of the specific game with an emphasis on the rules and regulations of the sport.  Referees will be responsible for officiating youth and adult sports throughout the year. 

Referees must demonstrate the ability to work well with children and adults, must remain unbiased during games, and must maintain control of all aspects of the game. 

Referees must demonstrate positive, professional role modeling at all times, acting in a manner that is consistent with the staff code of conduct and the philosophy, goals, and objectives of the Northampton County Parks and Recreation Department.

Minimum of 18 years of age, and at least 2 years’ experience, CPR/First Aid/AED certification is required with this position. A certified referee is preferred; however, individuals with previous experience will be considered as well. All applicants must complete a criminal background check and Child Protective Services check before being considered for this position.

911 Communications Officer

The Eastern Shore of Virginia 9-1-1 Commission is now accepting applications for 9-1-1 Communications Officers for immediate part-time openings, with a focus on individuals potentially interested in future full-time advancement. The qualified applicant will work rotating shifts, including weekdays, weekends, and holidays, as well as fill in shifts as needed. Communications Officers are responsible for answering 9-1-1 calls, verifying the callback number and address of the emergency, determining the nature of the emergency and transferring the call or dispatching the appropriate emergency response unit as required, as well as other associated duties.

Minimum qualifications are a high school diploma or equivalent, including some experience in keyboarding or typing. Applicants must be able to speak clearly and distinctly, understand and follow detailed directions, act quickly and effectively during emergencies, and operate complex telecommunications equipment. Desirable qualifications include two years experience in law enforcement, fire, or emergency medical services, and/or public safety dispatching. Applicants selected for employment will be subject to a background investigation and drug screening.
