How do I apply for a vacancy?

A separate Northampton County application is required for each announced vacancy by 5 p.m. on the deadline date. Position title and department location must be written on each application. Resumes cannot substitute the Northampton County Employment Application.

Maintenance Worker

The County of Northampton is accepting applications for a (part time) Maintenance Worker in its Public Works & Operations Department.
The selected candidate will maintain all County facilities and the essential function of this position is to maintain grounds including mowing/ trimming, weeding, planting shrubs and plants, picking up debris and trash and perform repairs and maintenance work as assigned. A valid Virginia drivers’ license is required. The hourly rate for this position is 11.86 / hour.

9-1-1 Communications Officer

The Eastern Shore of Virginia 9-1-1 Commission is now accepting applications for 9-1-1 Communications Officers for immediate part-time openings and potentially for future full-time openings. The qualified applicant will work rotating shifts, including weekdays, weekends, and holidays, as well as fill in shifts as needed. Communications Officers are responsible for answering 9-1-1 calls, verifying the callback number and address of the emergency, determining the nature of the emergency and transferring the call or dispatching the appropriate emergency response unit as required, as well as other associated duties.

Minimum qualifications are a high school diploma or equivalent, including some experience in keyboarding or typing. Applicants must be able to speak clearly and distinctly, understand and follow detailed directions, act quickly and effectively during emergencies, and operate complex telecommunications equipment. Desirable qualifications include two years experience in law enforcement, fire, or emergency medical services, and/or public safety dispatching. Applicants selected for employment will be subject to a criminal history background investigation and drug screening.

POSITION VACANCY

The County of Northampton is accepting applications for a County Administrator. A bachelor’s degree in public administration or a related field is required, a master’s degree highly desirable. A minimum of five years of public-management experience as chief administrative officer or in a responsible local-government position required. Past experience of the individual must demonstrate familiarity in areas that include planning, public administration, finance, human-resources management and public relations. Experience in successfully balancing commercial and residential growth in a rural area is an important consideration.

Jail Medic


This position will be working in the Eastern Shore Regional Jail and the job will require shift work, days, nights, weekends, holidays, and required to be on call at times.
Qualifications: over the age of 21 and have obtained high school diploma or GED. Applicant must possess at a minimum the following: LPN or higher certifications preferred with work experience or EMT B and higher preferred with work experience.

Emergency Medical Technician


Northampton County is accepting applications for Full time and Part time Emergency Medical Technicians in the Emergency Medical Services Department.


Applicant must possess the following: Commonwealth of Virginia- Department of Health Emergency Medical Technician certification, Advanced Life Support Certification preferred /CPR , valid VA. Driver’s License with good driving record, Emergency Vehicle Operators Course, Hazardous Materials Awareness. Criminal Background checks are a requirement with this position.
