Northampton Social Services Reopening to the Public Effective, July 6, 2021 Northampton County Department of Social Services will reopen to the public by appointment only. To schedule an appointment, call (757) 678-5153.

Appointments are not necessary to apply for benefits.
Visit www.commonhelp.virginia.gov or effective July 1, 2021; call the new and improved one stop number to apply for all benefits. Call 1-833-522- 5582. This new telephone number will help route Virginians to the appropriate call center based on your specific questions or needs and will include options to reach the DSS Enterprise call center, Cover Virginia call center, and Medicaid Member Helpline.

Even though Northampton Social Services is reopening by appointment only, they will continue to be available Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

To make a Child Protective Service/ or Adult Protective
Service complaint during normal business hours, call the agency at (757) 678-5153. To file a complaint after hours, call the Sheriffs Department at (757) 678-0458 or call the 24-Hour CPS hotline
at 1-800-552-7096.

Mozella Francis, Director of Northampton County Department of Social Service shares how one gift can make a meaningful impact on others. 


The Northampton County Department of Social Services' mission is to provide benefits and services to the citizens. The department offers adult protective services, foster care, employment services, food stamps, temporary help to needy families, Medicaid and child care.

A three member board represents the County. This board meets the third Tuesday of each month at 9 AM in the Social Services Building.
