POSITION VACANCY


The County of Northampton Commissioner of Revenue is accepting full time employment applications for:

Real Estate & Personal Property Technician


This position provides assistance and information related to Personal Property Taxes, Real Estate taxes, Business License, State Income tax and various other job duties to the public and other government agencies. Please see full list of duties in the job description below. 

Requires high school diploma or GED and the equivalent of one year of college or work experience in related field with customer service and experience in real estate & GIS mapping, personal property and tax preparation is preferred. Based on qualifications and experience starting salary range for this position is $22,000- $24,000 plus benefits, with 6 month probationary period.

General Definition of Work

Performs responsible skilled clerical work assisting in the operation of the office of Commissioner of the Revenue. Provides assistance with maintaining real estate records for General Reassessment purposes; does related work as required. Work is performed under regular supervision.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assisting with real estate, personal property, and business license taxes and the general operation of the Commissioner of the Revenue office; preparing and maintaining files and records; assisting the public.
  • Provides customer service; provides assistance and information related to real estate properties, maps, assessments, procedures, forms, fees or other issues; assists the public in use of public access computer terminals and GIS mapping computer; responds to routine questions, researches problems and initiates problem resolution.
  • Some knowledge of practices of real estate assessment; some knowledge of applicable codes, laws and regulations; some knowledge of computer applications used for assessment and mapping purposes; ability to communicate ideas effectively both orally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with associates and the general public. The worker is not subject to adverse environmental conditions.
  • Answers the telephone and greets visitors. Provides customer service. Provides assistance and information related to business licenses; personal property; business personal property; meals and transient tax; provides information regarding assessment methods for a vehicle, moves property in and out of County using information from DMV and other available sources; performs high mileage adjustments; reviews documentation for accuracy and completeness; responds to routine questions, researches problems and initiates problem resolution.

  • Performs general clerical tasks, which may include typing documents, making copies, sending/receiving faxes

  • Performs related tasks as required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Some knowledge of the general laws and administration of policies governing real; personal property and state income taxes; general knowledge of modern office practices and of standard office and accounting equipment; ability to prepare and maintain detailed financial records and reports; ability to make math calculations quickly and accurately; ability to operate standard office, word processing and data entry equipment; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with associates and the general public. Knowledge of Excel and Word helpful.

Education and Experience

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and some customer service experience.

 NCPR Summer Camp Counselors

 

Northampton County Parks and Recreation is seeking 2019 summer camp counselors. Under the supervision and guidance of the Northampton County Parks and Recreation Department Director, the Summer Camp Counselor is responsible for creating a high quality experience for every camper. Ensure the safety, well-being and personal growth of campers. Be an active and supportive member of the Summer Camp team and a positive member of the entire staff. Summer Camp counselors must demonstrate positive, professional role modeling at all times, acting in a manner that is consistent with the staff code of conduct and the philosophy, goals, and objectives of the Northampton County Parks and Recreation Department.

Camp begins Monday June 17th and will run until August 23rd, Monday through Friday 7:30am to 5:00pm.

Zoning Administrator

 

Northampton County is accepting applications for a full-time Zoning Administrator. The essential function of the position is to enforce zoning ordinances and is responsible for knowledge and enforcement of County zoning ordinances, related inspections, and preparing reports.
Conducts inspections for compliance with County zoning ordinances; resolves non-compliance issues. Serves as Subdivision Agent.
Prefer Bachelor’s degree in public administration or a closely related field.
Requires valid Virginia Driver’s License and a Virginia Association of Zoning Officials’ certification.
Excellent communication skills are essential. The salary range for this position is $48,400- 72,600 plus benefits. Negotiable depending on qualifications.

Volunteer Firefighter Recruitment Coordinator

Volunteer Firefighter Recruitment Coordinator - Position Advertisement

On behalf of The Community Fire Company, Inc. (the volunteer fire department serving Exmore and surrounding communities), Northampton County is seeking an individual to serve as the Volunteer Firefighter Recruitment Coordinator. This is a new part-time position and is temporary in nature utilizing awarded federal grant funds.
The incumbent will utilize the latest techniques for the recruitment of volunteer firefighters and methods to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of such recruitment efforts. Works with social, civic, and local organizations to develop partnerships, where appropriate to assist in the recruitment of volunteer firefighters. A significant aspect of work will include the development, implementation, and management of a marketing program to recruit volunteer firefighters.

Candidates must have an Associate’s Degree or higher (or acceptable equivalent work experience), a valid driver’s license (providing vehicle for use and/or reimbursement for travel), and must successfully pass a background screening. The successful candidate should have excellent time management skills and the ability to work with minimal direct supervision. Position is expected to work between 20-29 hours weekly and will work under the supervision of the Fire Chief and County of Northampton. Expected hourly salary wages are between $18.00 and $25.00.
