NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING

 

The Northampton County Planning Commission will meet and conduct public hearings
on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. in the Board Chambers located at 16404 Courthouse Road in Eastville, Virginia. The purpose is to conduct regular business and review the following application and draft ordinance in order to develop and forward recommendations to the Board of Supervisors.

Minor SUP 2026-06: Norman & Vickie Smith are applying for a minor special use permit for a Single-Wide Mobile Home, a use requiring a special use permit in the Village/Residential (V/R) zoning district. The property is located on Jimmys Court, Cape Charles, VA and is further described as Tax Map 91B-A-74.

ZTA 2025-04: The Board of Supervisors of Northampton County is proposing a Zoning Text Amendment in the form of an ordinance, 2026-001, with respect to areas designated as Town Edge in the Northampton County Comprehensive Plan. The proposed ordinance will amend §§ 154.2.003 Definitions, 154.2.081 Zoning Districts
Created, 154.2.082 Statements of Intent for Primary and Secondary Zoning Districts of Chapter 154.2 of the Northampton County Code, and add § 154.2.123 Development in the Town Edge Residential (TE-R) District to that Chapter, which addition establishes provisions governing development in the Town Edge - Residential zoning district in order to facilitate denser developments featuring cluster housing and mixed residential and retail uses with the goal of creating livable communities containing affordable
housing as well as public and retail amenities.
Ordinance 2026-001 does not constitute a rezoning; hence no zoning map amendments will be at issue or discussed by the Planning Commission.

NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING

 

The Northampton County Board of Supervisors will hold a public hearing commencing at 6:00 p.m., on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, in the Board Room of the County Administration Building, 16404 Courthouse Road, Eastville, Virginia, to afford interested parties the opportunity to be heard or present written comments regarding the following ordinance:

AN ORDINANCE, NO. 2026-003 – Adding §§ 99.01 through 99.04 to a new Chapter 99 in Title IX of the Northampton County Code, to designate the Eastern Shore Rail Trail as a public nonmotorized transportation facility and recreational shared-used path, to prohibit the use of the Eastern Shore Rail Trail by motorized vehicles unless expressly permitted, to establish other rules governing use of the Eastern Shore Rail Trail, and to provide civil penalties for violations.

A copy of the proposed ordinance is available for public review at the County Administrator’s Office, Eastville, Virginia, during normal business hours.
