Public Service Announcement Regarding Suspension on Open Burning
In accordance with Chapter 97.11 of the Northampton County Code of Ordinances, the County Administrator has declared a SUSPENSION OF BURNING due to dry conditions creating a threat to life and property throughout the County. This suspension of burning applies to and prohibits ALL open burning within Northampton County's jurisdiction only. This suspension is effective IMMEDIATELY and will continue until conditions change.
The ban applies to all outdoor ignition sources except for the following exclusions:
I. Proper use of gas and charcoal grills,
2. Campfires at the County's commercial, State and Federal campgrounds,
3. Private property recreational campfires that are limited to a fire area of two feet with a height
of three feet,
4. Public fireworks displays,
5. Volunteer fire company training exercises, and
6. Activities in support of farm operations
Any violation of Chapter 97 .11 of the Northampton County Ordinance is punishable as a Class 1 misdemeanor, which may result in confinement in jail for not more than twelve (12) months and a fine of not more than Two Thousand Five Hundred Dollars ($2,500.00), either or both.
