May 9, 2023 Eastville, Virginia- The Northampton County Board of Supervisors are pleased to announce that they have appointed Michelle Clayton as the next Northampton County Attorney. She is replacing Bev Leatherbury who is retiring as County and Commonwealth Attorney for Northampton. Michelle Clayton has been an attorney since 2001. She has been the Town of Wytheville Attorney and Smyth County Attorney as well as having a private practice. She has also served as the attorney for the Smyth-Washington Regional Industrial Facility Authority and the Marion Housing and Redevelopment Authority. She is the Co-Chair of the Town Attorneys Practice Group for the Local Government Attorneys of Virginia and the Vice-Chair of the General Laws Policy Committee for the Virginia Municipal League.
Michelle will be starting with Northampton on May 15, 2023. We welcome her and look forward to working with her for the residents of Northampton County.
